§ 1. It’s 7h24 and the Sun has just come up from behind the hills on the East, thus coloring the cumulus clouds orange, white and grey and illuminating my huge kitchen and my spacious living meditation room…

§ 2. Only the Zapoteco Indians from Oaxaca, México, had welcomed me so warmly; MTL’s CSDM should take a look at how Cree People in Mistissini take care of their teachers; the CSDM could buy or rent houses or apartments and rent them at reasonable price to teachers from outside MTL.

§ 3. A first week of teaching has gone by and my second one is followed by a three-day holiday: Thanksgiving. The complexity of my task is that I teach five subjects, namely Science and Technology, Maths, French, Geography, and History, whereas I’ve been formed to teach English, as a second language, or Spanish, as a foreign language…

§ 4. The students are gentle and rather shy as a rule; the classes are small; absenteeism likely is the biggest problem to solve; it’s fun to be part of a teachers’ team, which likely can be counted with my 20 fingers, at the high school level anyway… Most students are Cree Indians, although some may be metis and others, innues…

§ 5. Officially, my full-time task includes time for the School Website and for the Arts committees; I also signed up for the Breakfast Club and for the Bruntland Green school committees; I was also given two boxes of file folders, in which I will build up the students’ portfolios…

§ 6. I mostly finished unpacking into this 4-bedroom house; I set a school workshop at home and I’m catching up on my lack of sleep. There is a spot in the basement that seems made just for hanging a hammock; that’s where I fell asleep this afternoon; I hadn’t fallen asleep in a hammock for ages…

§ 7. In brief, moving to Mistissini was a great move; sometimes, in life, one hesitates to jump into the river flow, but I’m sure glad I did, for the river took me to a gorgeous beach, where I believe, I shall be happy…
